What if a new beginning didn’t mean erasing the past, but allowing it to become part of something beautiful?
Sometimes beauty begins when we give ourselves permission to become something new, while honouring everything we once were.
My newest series of paintings explores this very idea. Standing
Standing amidst some of my stored artwork, I was struck with the thought “It’s time for you to go! Show me where you want to be!” And that was it, that was the moment I grabbed my brush and began giving new life to old pieces, offering them a chance to truly be who they were meant to be. This is like life is it not? Learning from the past, embracing change, and stepping forward into the future with open arms and faith that it will all work out. And this is how it all turned into a new collection of pieces that I adore!
Sweetly placed in the background of this new piece titled ‘Lueur Florale’ lives the ‘Pink Marshmallows’ that existed in the original piece. Can you spot them? I’ll give you a hint…in the top left corner you can see s small white square shape - that is a marshmallow. They exist in various pink shades as well, throughout this piece. The result is a vibrant burst of colour layered gently over the soft existence of another story that was ready to be retold.
The next piece is titled ‘Waterlilies’. It exists over a textured piece that depicted pieces of a childhood game, whereas the new piece that now lives overtop of it represents a more mature scene of gentle flowing waters, graced with tender waterlilies floating peacefully, timelessly. The result here is a beautiful entwinement of the exuberance of youth with the wisdom of a calm maturity.
Created over existing works, each piece carries whispers of what came before. Layers of texture, colour and energy rise through the new pieces, celebrating change, renewal, acceptance, and the beautiful possibility of beginning again.
This piece is called ‘Morning Roses’ and it lays atop what was once a playful piece depicting what I referred to as ‘Hippy Flowers’ - reminiscent of the sixties and now intermingled with a sunny backdrop for soft pink roses that whisper of love.
Can you spot the hippy petals? Hint, to the left of the vase lives one such image from the past. Search for more shapes of a time gone by in this piece.
‘Lumen’ Beneath this peaceful waterscape lives a mountain whose beauty is beyond words. As happens in nature, the two pieces blend together effortlessly like water caressing the earths surface.
This final piece is titled ‘Advantage Wildside’. Beneath these bold brushstrokes lived a vineyard. Perhaps the vines that once grew there faced the challenges of a wild environment, a wild time gone by? While the new vibrant shards of colour depict a playful strength that blows with the wind and bends with time - one that will thrive and bloom in every environment.
To bend with the wind, to change with the seasons, and to embrace whatever comes next is the gentle message behind every new piece in this latest series.
